Self expression is a means of which people tend to bring out their inner personality to the outside world. Someone who can express himself/herself can hardly live a double life. Before you learn how to make yourself reliant for people to express themselves, learn how to express yourself to others with these steps:
1. Be with the right people
By right people I mean people who share same mentality with you. Why? Imagine if you're a lover of cats and the group you're in is filled with people who don't like cats. If ever 'love for pets' is been discussed, how can you express your love for cats? Generally, you tend to be like the people who you're always with. Know that, it's only the 'outside you' that is like the people you're with not the 'inside you'. Self expression has to do with showing the 'inside you' out so people may know you better.
2. Don't hide your feelings
If you're sad about what someone did, tell that person. If you're angry, show it out. Hiding your feelings doesn't actually kill them. It only stores them and this is bad. Well, there are countless ways to relief your mind off stored feelings and lots more. Learn these ways by reading this post: overwhelming thoughts. Of all the ways to free your mind, always showing out your feelings is the most essential.
3. Don't be idle
As odd as this may seem, been idle can cause you to not fully express yourself. How? When you're idle, your mind is actively thinking. Thinking about anything. Now what if you've thought about something funny but makes little sense to you? Can you confidently say it out so people hear? What if they laugh at you? Can you keep telling them what you're thinking? No. The best thing to do when idle is to meditate* or read*.
Now these are few things to help you make someone express himself/herself fully to you:
1. Don't always condemn
When someone feel that you always condemn his/her actions, he'll/she'll tend to hide certain things from you. The best way to condemn isn't by shouting but through advising and letting the person know that it's your opinion(it's seriously just your opinion).
2. Always express yourself to the person
Wether it's your love or your care, always make someone know what you think of him/her. That'll move the person to do likewise to you. Telling someone 'i love you' once in a while would work wonders in your relationship with the person.
3. Ask questions
Once you feel that self expression is now mutual between the both of you, asking the person questions about his/her life and also telling him/her about yours would make that person reveal himself/herself more to you. In this way, you'll be able to help the person.
4. Help if possible
If you see that this person needs help in a way you can, help him/her. In this way, the person would feel confident and secure while around you.
